“The unfortunate reality of being a teacher or student in our modern educational landscape is that schooling is often hampered, isolated, and detached from the real world, so much so that a classroom, can feel like a cage”
|
My goal as an educator is to dispel this list of what school doesn’t teach while prioritizing The 4Rs: Realness, Relevance, Rigor & Relationships. Students learn to read & write analytically, develop real financial skills and sustained action civics & service learning projects. This website is a capstone to my Teachers For Global Classrooms Fulbright Fellowship and showcases my students’ work and instruction that extends learning beyond a classroom.

I plan to use this website to...
1.Share what I LEARN about Civics Education and Culturally Responsive Classrooms from my Fulbright & professional learning within NYC Public Schools
2.Model a Cagebusting Classroom by showcasing what I TEACH and my students’ civic engagement & financial skills
3.Blog about my TRAVEL experiences teaching & learning abroad
4.STUDY how educators approach civic engagement & politics around the world
5.MEMORIALIZE the rich history of Public Schools and identify artifacts connected to school as relevant teaching tools
6.ELEVATE my students' activism around access to lead free, sustainable drinking water
7.SHARE interdisciplinary civic engagement practices across my school and how they foster both Social Emotional Learning & Restorative Justice
8.CONNECT with other individuals passionate about teaching & learning. Connect with me and follow what my students and I are working on.

My students’ work has been infused into a free online curriculum to help other educators interested in this. The U.S. Department of State offers Solving Global Problems, a free, self-paced online course to help educators prepare to ignite students’ critical thinking and creativity through a focus on tackling global problems.
Fulbright Capstone websites are not official U.S.Department of State publications.
